Through The Lens: Costa Rica

We were surrounded by the jungle and blessed with coffee, eggs, rice and beans, and fruit for breakfast. It was the second morning of our trip when we noticed something special about our group of ten. Though half the girls were from California and the other half from Florida and Kansas City, and all together for the first time, it was clear how each individual represented a distinct characteristic of Jesus.

Where one beamed the joy of the Lord, another had Jesus's heart for serving, another led by always putting themselves last, whereas another remained lowly and meek, another strong in truth and wisdom, and so on. It was beautiful to see and even more encouraging for each of us to desire to grow in the areas we lacked. When we saw one sacrifice self to serve, we all were motivated to sacrifice self to serve. And when one was bold with prayer, we all grew bold to pray. When attacks came, we prayed, encouraged, and loved one another.

And because God continued to grow our hearts in His love for one another, we were able to shine the love of Jesus brighter and reflect the image of God better than anyone could do individually, wherever we went among whomever we encountered.

At Casa Vida, the only sound-doctrine church and faith-based school in Nosara, we got to lead a PE class to love on the K-5 kiddos, play games, dance, and learn about Jesus! When we went to the skatepark, some teachers from the school joined us. When we hosted a ladies' night for the women of the church, we met some mothers of children along with many other women who just needed biblical encouragement and a refreshing of the Spirit by being around others on fire with the love of Jesus. It was a time of ministering and being ministered to, and all were blessed by just being a part of a Christ-centered community.

At the surf camp we hosted, we were blessed with more new faces and familiar ones as we continued connecting with the Nosara community.
The experience underscored the value of being in a Godly community and its ripple effect on others. And what's great about the action sports community – whether it's surfing, skateboarding, or snowboarding – is unity in passion and a bond through building one another up in it.

When you add the Blood of Jesus to the mix, there's an element of love that takes everything to the next level.

And that's what Ride Nature is all about. Using our passions as a bridge to connect, reconnect, or even allow a first-time experience with Jesus through those who love Him and want to love others He created in His image. As Pastor Daniel from Casa de Vida said, "When the Church [the Body of people] is healthy, it can change the world." To the ends.
