Through The Lens: South Africa

It had been a short hiatus since our last To the Ends episode, so as you can imagine, we were beyond excited to head to Cape Town, South Africa, to film Episode 17!

South Africa, specifically Cape Town, carries such a rich history marked by the struggles of apartheid, which so clearly continue to shape the lives of its people today, especially the youth who often face the challenges of poverty, violence, and broken communities. We were visiting our long-term ministry partner and close friend, Chris Van Der Merwe, to serve alongside him and the organization he founded nearly 15 years prior, “Inspired to Become.” This trip was run and gun as we hosted eight events in 6 days, each centered on sharing with the kids that their true worth is found in Christ, not their circumstances or surroundings.

The needs are immense in South Africa. The unemployment rate is over 30 percent, and the percentage of youth without fathers is more than double that.

The blessing was all ours to witness firsthand and capture through film the impact Chris is making in the lives of so many fatherless kids. They are not just learning to skate and surf but discovering their true identity in Christ and experiencing the love of their Heavenly Father. We are honored to announce that episode 17, “South Africa,” will be releasing April 27th an extremely significant day in South Africa know as "Freedom Day". A public holiday that commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on that day only 31 years ago in 1994.
